Three civil service appointees named for post office

Frank Holt of 300 North West Sixth Street and Paul G. Drew, after general, were chosen as substitute carriers. Frank Holt will be employed as substitute clerk and Paul G. Drew as substitute carrier beginning July 16. They ranked highest in January civil service exams, replacing temporary workers George McBride Roy Norris and Bernard Grannan. Grannan resigned June 17 to return to the B&O Railway in Dayton, Ohio.

Burl McRoberts Injured in Mowing Machine Accident

Burl McRoberts six year old son of James McRoberts of Front Street sustained painful injuries to three fingers on one hand when they were accidentally caught in a mowing machine yesterday afternoon. A local doctor administered several stitches to close the wounds.

Ray Dyson Suffers Painful Hand Injury at Mill

Ray Dyson an employee of the Goshorn Mill sustained a painful mashed left hand when it was caught in a trunk door on a car he was loading with a sack of feed. The door fell and mashed the hand. Medical attention was given.

Mary Williams Taken By Death In Martin Home

Mary Williams aged 88 died at the home near Shoals at 7 30 this morning of a heart attack following a recent broken hip. Born June 3 1849 in Ohio she was the daughter of George and Sarah Yenne pioneers in Martin county. She married James Williams in 1868 and he survives aged 94 a Civil War veteran. A lifelong Shoals resident she lived on the present farm 30 years. She was a member of Shoals M E church and a life long neighbor to Martin and Washington counties. The couple celebrated their 58th anniversary on June 14 this year. Surviving are her father S P Yenne 85 a sister who lived with her and Mrs Jenne Acre of Long Beach California. Children surviving include Ella Witcher Emma Freeman and El Klemke of Shoals Albert Williams Merle Williams of California. Funeral arrangements had not been completed at press hour.

Horses Arrive at City Track for July Sth

M F Knipp trainer for M R Parks Stables Greenville Miss arrives at Graham Farms Track with five horses for July races. Walter Candler of Atlanta will oversee horses as Beate oe prepares for a large training slate. McGehee notes this may yield one of the best racing programs in track history with four harness and two running events featuring 2 24 trot 2 24 tare pace and half mile rugpaed til marks plus 2 14 pace on the illuminated track. Free acts and band concerts accompany heats.

Mrs Iris Breedlove of West Baden underwent a major operation last night. Miss Phyllis Ann Templin of 306 East Van Trees had a minor operation this morning. Three Clergymen Drowned at Minnesota Dam Flood

Winona Minnesota June 26 three clergymen drowned after being drawn into a flood gate at an irrigation dam. Rescue efforts were launched but failed to save the men who were identified as members of local parishes. Investigations to determine exact circumstances are underway.

In Michigan City on June 26 CIO lost its foothold as former organizer R Le Crowmer burned CIO application cards obtained during a drive. He led meetings with applicants over a week, saying 429 of 432 favored smashing the CIO. three undecided. Crowmer later stated in writing that the workers were being moved toward communism and rebellion.

Bedford golfer Eeote killed in car crash collision

Bedford golfer Eeote was injured Friday when his touring car collided with a truck driven by Lee Ash. He was taken to a hospital and died about an hour after arrival. Survivors include his mother, a brother, and a sister.
