President John Lewis announced that Tuesday June 27 at 6 30 P M all Eagles and their wives are invited to the Eagles club room for a chicken supper. Each lady should bring a covered dish. After the supper a class of candidates will be initiated into the local Aerie, first initiation since new officers.
The Board of Public Works schedules safety hearings next Monday at 8 after a city council meeting as six firemen are relieved of duties. No charges, but a bona fide reduction in fire department personnel is cited. Names of relieved, restored, and reassigned include Seth J. Babrick and LeRoy Sith, with others listed. mayor says not court-mandated, but part of ongoing case. The plan aims to reassign relieved firefighters to other city departments as vacancies emerge.
Johnny Simi claimed the Diana's Legion Tourney in Indianapolis after an 18 hole championship. Local players B. C. Pinnick J Ho Killion and Harry Han joined in, with Washi noted among participants.
Several hundred Christian Endeavor delegates gathered in Washington for the 51st annual Indiana C E convention opening tonight. The four day event includes a business session, welcomes from local church leaders, and a keynote by Dr. Daniel A. Poling of Philadelphia. The convention runs through Sunday with new officers and next year’s city to be chosen.
June 22. The United States warns Japan it will tolerate no interference with American naval movement in far eastern waters. Tokyo is told it will be held responsible for any damage to ships or crews as American forces safeguard interests in China. The message, delivered by Navy Department spokesmen, emphasizes enforcement of free passage for U S ships through Chinese waters and warns that any interference will be broken.
Flora Illinois June 22 A passenger train struck a car carrying school students near here. Three youths died and several were injured when the car was demolished by the impact. The train hit the vehicle near its center and tossed it about 30 feet. The engineer and conductor were to return here for an inquest.
Washing Kiwanis Club observed a weekly session with Stephen F Myers presiding. Past presidents spoke on their year of service and others praised the deceased members. Attendees included Ezra Mattingly Wiley Ings A Fulkerson J G Allery Sam S Scott L Dougherty Pryde Burch and Fred Dobbyn. Next Tuesday the club plans a trip to Evans for the annual children's Mesker Zoo event.
Washington June 22 President Roosevelt announced a federal lending program totaling 3.86 billion dollars to boost the economy over seven years. The plan envisions loans for water works, sewers, and municipal projects, with 1.5 billion to be spent in the next two years.
Police advised boys to play baseball in city playgrounds rather than streets after complaints of balls hitting gardens and lawns. They warned the street practice endangers both youths and property and said steps would be taken to stop it.
Jerome Hayes of Wheatland receives a four year post office contract to transport mail on the Vincennes Washington star route. The daily schedule has a 4 30 a m departure from Vincennes and an 8 p m return from Washington. Contract begins July 1.
Arthur Allen Jr., a West Point graduate, was the principal speaker at the regular Rotary Club meeting held today at the Elks home. He discussed army work in various branches and the studies and requirements at the military academy.
Junior Yarbrough son of Mr and Mrs Frank Yarbrough today won a prize in a contest sponsored by the Indianapolis News. He receives a five day trip to the New York World’s Fair and will depart Sunday for New York.
Three transients taken into custody Tuesday night for investigation of suspected narcotics activities were released by Sheriff Milton H. Fitzgerald last night and this morning with no charges preferred against any of them.
Local firemen responded to a rubbish fire at 511 Sunset Avenue at 10 50 this morning. No loss or injuries were reported.

A known resident of the Ori community died this morning at 4 30 at her Flint Michigan home from complications. The deceased woman was Marble Copeland daughter of Edward Copeland of Eland and is survived by two daughters and her father. The body will be returned Friday at noon. Funeral details are incomplete.
Washington June 22 economy advocates failed to cut a major appropriation bill proposing 225 million dollars in partisan support to farmers. The vote ended 185 to 175, blocking the measure.
In the vicinity of the missing Pike Lth the sheriff and several officers continued this morning to secure the area. Torches or sand blasts were used as part of efforts to search and close off the location.
NREA today announced an attempted arson at the One Fr School building in West Washington Tuesday night was frustrated by timely action. The fire was contained with no reported injuries and the cause is under investigation.

Odon Ind June 22 Mrs Sarah A Racer widow of Eli Racer living three miles from Odon died at her home at 5 am today. She married Eli Racer on October 2 1880, who died in 1930. Her birthplace was LaGrange county daughter of Hiram A Potts and Martha Haverstock Potts.
