He was charged with discharging firearms in a public place and released on forfeit, while his friends praised his army record and claimed Buffalo Bill did not use buckskin.
William J. Bryan arrived from Winona Minnesota and visited Oyster Bay. He and two friends drove to see Roosevelt. Roosevelt was not home. Gaynor introduced Bryan to an audience where he spoke on The Signs of the Times and criticized reformers for their internal bickering.
