Great Northern ore deal and money market shifts

The Washington Post reports on New York finance in early September 1908, noting higher money rates cooling stock gains while the real estate boom eases. It discusses gold import hopes, Treasury relief ideas, and a rising mood for municipal securities despite warnings on municipal ownership and rail government control debates. It also details Australia’s rail issues, and the anticipated Great Northern ore deal favoring United States Steel with a new holding structure and royalty-driven payouts.
