James Spencer of Frederick, born 1863, educated at Frederick Public Schools Dickinson College, Frederick lawyer admitted 1881, served as Frederick city attorney 1896-1901. He married Mary Floyd in 1893 and has three sons. The Roanoke incident involved a shot aimed at him by a spectator during a political event. He survived with wounds to face neck and shoulders and was hospitalized.
