Corbett Declared Winner In Eight Round Bout At Eureka Club
In Baltimore on December 27, Young Corbett defeated Joe Tipman of the city after eight rounds in a scheduled fifteen round bout. Tipman quit claiming a broken right hand, while spectators disputed the finish as Corbett’s sharp right hand to the body and stomach took its toll. Corbett, heavier and pressing the action, wore Tipman down after a fast start. Referee James O'Hara oversaw the contest with handlers Tuthill Loftus Elliott for Corbett and Miller Bell Snowden for Tipman.
