Credit for Revenue Urged by Comptroller Ridgely

William Barrett Ridgely, Comptroller of the Currency, urged in Detroit at the Bankers' Club tenth anniversary banquet that the March 4 1907 Aldrich act allows revenues to circulate as bank credits rather than cash. He proposed allowing customs and internal revenue payments to be made with certificates of deposit on designated depository banks to remove Treasury money from the market. This shift would reduce Treasury reliance in a tight money market and promote stability for business calculations and conditions.
