Thousands visit Arlington National Cemetery on Decoration Day as ceremonies honor fallen defenders. Veterans unveil monuments to Generals Kelley and Mower, with parades, flags, and inspiring music. Young and old in uniforms, families, and civic groups fill the grounds, recalling battles from Gettysburg to Appomattox and paying tribute to unknown dead.
The article notes patriotic services at Congressional, Soldiers' Home, Glenwood, Prospect Hill, St. Mary's, Mt. Olivet, Tivty Road, Oak Hill, St. Elizabeth's, Harmony cemeteries and many isolated graves were decorated as faithful friends recalled the fallen.

Local military and patriotic organizations escort a G A R member to Arlington in a morning parade. Veterans march in step from Fourteenth Street to Mundison Place and D Street, then board special cars to Arlington, with the District National Guard and Marine Band in attendance.
Farragut Post No 1 G A R with the Women’s Relief Corps Daughters of Veterans and United States Spanish War Veterans held ceremonies. Kw Holbrook opened at 10 am with tributes to the dead, followed by an oration by Rev Dr Frank Bristol stressing unity liberty and sacrifice. Local students from Wallach Hilton Brent Edmonds Peabody Tow ers Lenox assisted in placing flowers and flags.
Under the John A. Logan Post G A R the memorial service honored fallen soldiers at St Elizabeth's Cemetery. Graves were decorated with flags and flowers in a ceremony led by Lincoln Camp Sons of Veterans Parker Trent and Victory Tent Ju ner Order of Rechabites. Speakers included James M. Dalzell A B Frisbie Dr William M White Col F T Johnson and Parker Trent read Gettysburg address in ravine north of hospital buildings. Music by St Elizabeth's Band and Van Buren School choir.
Auditor W W Brown addressed the crowd at Glenwood Cemetery and an array of veterans groups led the commemorations at Glenwood Prospect Hill St Marys and Mount Olivet. The program featured bugler George Preshaw readings and Brown's Memorial Day oration focusing on sacrifice and national renewal.
Memorial Day observances were held yesterday at Holy Rood and Oak Hill cemeteries in Georgetown with George J. Morris Post No 19 A R Admiral George Dewey Post No 7 USWV and the Industrial Home School fife and drum corps taking part. Lee Haycock read Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and prayers were offered by Father James Brie S J and Rev C W Skinner.
Former Grand Army of the Republic commander Corporal James Tanner headlined a vast Arlington National Cemetery commemoration drawing about twenty thousand veterans and civilians. The day featured statues unveiled for Gen. Joseph A. Mower and Maj. Gen. Benjamin Kelley, a Marine Band procession, and speeches praising heroism and shared sacrifice beyond creed.
