Edwards Case Postponed In Police Court
Col Charles A. Edwards, secretary of the Democratic Congressional Committee, was called in Police Court to answer for alleged assault on Alejandro Garland of the Peruvian Legation. The case was postponed at the request of Assistant District Attorney Ralph Given due to Garland’s absence. Given said they were prepared to proceed but wished to consult with Garland. Garland is said to be seriously wounded and reluctant to testify. It is believed he has sought refuge to avoid testifying against Edwards. The DA’s office has discussed with the Department of Justice the advisability of having the Peruvian Minister order Garland to appear, and the case may be presented to the grand jury if an indictment is found, with the Attorney General handling the matter with the Peruvian Minister.
