Joshua Saunders a first year Western High School student drowned in the Potomac near the Virginia shore amid a crowded holiday scene. Despite attempts by companions and other bathers to rescue him, the swimmer who was 16 years old sank about 20 feet from shore and was recovered and transported to Georgetown University Hospital before being moved to an undertaker.
