Surgeon Dr John A Houston Hurt In Streetcar Collision

Dr John A Houston a 47 year old manager of a private sanitarium at Northampton Massachusetts was struck by an eastbound streetcar on Fourteenth Street Northwest while stepping in front of a second westbound car. He suffered skull base fracture and brain concussion and was taken to Emergency Hospital in serious condition after being knocked several feet from the tracks. He had been visiting friends at the Capitol and was en route to a dinner party when the accident occurred. Police notified after his friends waited for his arrival.

Square purchase signals future school site in Dumblane

In Dumblane near Tennallytown a city block was bought by the Order of The Staters of Providence of St. Marys of the Woods for 36372.20 dollars. The 4.78 square foot parcel was bought from Patrick J. Brennan, who had acquired it from the Misses Patten and Corbin. R W Walker & Son handled the negotiations. It is not yet known what will be done with the land, but a school is likely to be built there in the future.

Mirage Rescue At Sea Baffled Crew Reports Floating Bark

Special to The Washington Post details a sea rescue seen by the Sehren crew near the Atlantic equator. A distant mirage showed a four masted bark. later the same craft passed near, with crew aboard and a life boat taking a man from the water. Cadet Bradshaw's court martial sentence was disapproved and he will be released.

Kroonland's Slow Voyage Amid Gales and Coal Shortage

London dispatch reports the Red Star Line steamer Kroonland after leaving New York on March 17 reached Dover at midnight in heavy easterly gales. Engines failed briefly, coal ran low, and speed slowed to about thirteen knots late in the voyage. A separate note from Palermo mentions the Italian steamer Inia arriving ashore leaking badly and needing discharge and repairs.

Thieves Active in District with Sneak Thieves Report

Police reports show ongoing thefts across the District by sneak thieves and alleged false-key workers. Former Mayor Robert A. Van Wyck married the divorced wife of John Hertle in Broadway Tabernacle with few witnesses. Stole Woman's Fortune in Lockland Bakery

In Lockland Ohio a white thief stormed Mrs C Bechmidt's bakery and seized an $800 cash and $2,000 in gold bonds. After a struggle the thief escaped with the box. Mrs Bechmidt had planned to rely on bank funds kept in safekeeping. The report notes the bold daytime robbery and the suspect's escape.
