Minnesota lawmakers consider a bill to levy five dollars yearly on all unmarried men over 30 or those unable to prove moral fitness for marriage. Funds would support indigent spinsters, effective after February 29, 1912, with leap year caution for unmarried men.

Henry Myers, district judge of Ravalli County, Montana, elected United States senator at 7:30 pm on the seventy-ninth joint ballot. He won the full Democratic vote of 53 to Carter’s 46 with three Republican scatters, becoming Montana’s senator after a long day of balloting. Myers, a Missouri native about 45, has a long career in law and politics in Montana.
Tony Ditto of Hawthorne New York was found dead near John D Rockefeller property at Tarrytown with four bullet holes in his head. Police and coroner investigated a Black Hand link while the victim's bull terrier stood guard beside the body. Ditto had previous trouble with blackmailers among foreigners at Kensico reservoir.
Annie Fisher a 9 year old girl was dragged into a dark hallway by two men who doused her clothes with kerosene and left her burning. A truck driver extinguished the flames with a blanket after she was seriously burned. The attackers escaped. motive unknown.
John P. Sawyer, a 21 year old George Washington University Law School student, says Roland De Vries shot him accidentally with a revolver. Sawyer, hospitalized in Georgetown, faces possible amputation of his right arm and an end to his athletic career. De Vries, captain of Catholic University baseball, visited regularly and seeks to ease Sawyer's confinement.
A life sentence convict, once a city leader, escapes jail and flees toward Georgia. He had led the city force for almost five years, and his bold escapes ended when officers confronted him. Two additional killings are on his record.
Edgar Stribling, long serving as Danville chief of police under the alias R E Morris, was arrested as an escaped murderer from Harris county Georgia. He had prior murder conviction, fled with his wife and ten children, and was returned to Georgia after a dramatic exposure by officers in Danville.
New York report outlines Count Joseph Gizycki of Austro Hungary and his Chicago-born wife Eleanor Patterson now in Washington. The Vienna decree grants a separation with no right to remarry during lifetime, a unique ruling not matching American divorce.
