Veterans Return to Gettysburg in Dignified Spirit

Old soldiers recalled civil war era ideals as a special train carried Union and Confederate veterans to Gettysburg. Capt G F Wolfe led a fife performance while Dan Williams drummed, with drummer boy Williams aboard. Notable attendees included Col R Marshel and Col Americus Wheadon as a second Washington to Gettysburg train was scheduled for today with later riders using regular service.

Veterans return to Gettysburg for centennial battle tribute

Gettysburg Pa June 23 veterans in blue and gray filled the town for a centennial celebration of the Civil War battle. Special trains brought thousands as crowds and circus-like banners dot the streets. Heat tests endurance but veterans promise not to relent, while preparations include army officials, Red Cross, and state guards for comfort and care. President Wisgon is expected to speak on July 4.

Stranger in Boston Man Dies in New York Hotel Room

A well dressed man claiming to be Henry J. Ammon of Boston killed himself in a room rented from Mrs. N. J. Ayres at 40 C street northeast after breaking a gas jet and slitting his throat. He left about $0 in cash but carried a bank passbook showing over $350. He had rented the room 24 hours and seemed anxious about a visitor, prompting police to seek a motive.

Disappointment Drives Man to Death, Boston Man

Althoveh Ammon told Mrs Ayres his home was Boston though police think he is a New Yorker. Clothing bears New York tailoring marks and a return shirt was found. Telegrams to New York and Boston poles yielded no reply by early morning. The body remains in the morgue.

Felled by boy on cycle injures pedestrian

Abraham Brown, an 0 year old resident of 120 Twentieth street northwest, was struck crossing near Union Station by a messenger boy on a bicycle who rode away. He suffered severe cuts to the face and head and was taken by ambulance to Emergency Hospital after a police officer called for aid.
