Stabs Woman to Death in Jealous Rage at Home

A mulatto woman died shortly after midnight after John Green entered her home drunk and stabbed her with a large kitchen knife in a jealous rage. Cocaine Vending Arrest Sparks City Bust in Richmond

Martha N. Taylor alias Bunk Stokes an ex convict was arrested at her home on cocaine vending charges aimed at the colored population. Police had monitored the place and used marked money to make the decoy purchase. A quantity of the drug was recovered and two women were captured after leaping from a window while three men escaped.

Memorial window honors General Jackson at Roanoke church

In Roanoke Virginia a memorial window honoring General Thomas Jackson known as Stonewall Jackson was unveiled at the Negro Presbyterian Church. Attendees included Confederate groups from Roanoke and Salem and Daughters of the Confederacy chapters. The window shows a riverbank army camp and bears the inscription Jackson last words Let us cross over the river and rest under the shade of the trees. The pastor Rev Lils Downing and his parents, once Sunday school pupils of Stonewall Jackson in Lexington, inspired the dedication. Funds for the window came from community donors.

Alexandria's Day Exhibition Draws Firefighting and Custer Pageant

Lover Ends Life Before Wedding in Baltimore Area

Edward Hinkleman a 23 year old from Baltimore near Roland Park killed himself in a carriage shed near his fiancee Miss Minerva Finney. He planned a two week trip to Rehoboth and marriage but left no note. About $8 was found, leading to conjecture money woes as motive. He had been invited to spend the night at Evergreen before departure. The couple and relatives sought reasons for the act, while the wedding was to occur within a week.

EB Shepperson Buried in Fredericksburg Burial

The body of George Baxter Shepperson eldest son of Mrs M W V Shepperson and the late Rev M Shepperson DTD of the Presbyterian Church South was brought from Newport News for interment Thursday afternoon. He died early Wednesday morning after a brief illness of acute Brights disease. He was 30 or 31, had managed a Newport News drug company, and was to be married in two weeks. His mother and Miss Milne of Richmond were with him.

Railroad charter to build electric line in Maryland area

A $600,000 charter was granted to form a company to construct a steam railroad from Chambersburg to Green Castle Mercersburg Stoney Batter and Falls within Maryland. Fire destroys Coonshore Building in West Newton

A midnight blaze in West Newton Pennsylvania destroyed the three story Coonshore Building and badly damaged the adjacent Sietcher Block. The walls of the Coonshore Building collapsed trapping or injuring several people on the sidewalk and adjoining structures. The loss was substantial with casualties reported and ongoing efforts to assess damages.
