The father got custody of the child. Hobbs says Porter gave up friends and fine gowns to live as a domestic and fought life's battle alone. She came to Chicago five years ago for work and feared meeting former social friends which she avoided with a heavy veil. She was crossing the street when struck by a heavy car.
