Cattle will come from Taft Texas ranches including a 1800 acre home ranch and another 200 000 acre ranch about 150 miles west. Preparations at the ranch HQ for Taft's October visit include golf links and hunting and fishing activities.
A southbound Monon Railroad passenger train jumped the track south of Manchester Indiana. The engineer and fireman were killed and six passengers injured. The mall clerk conductor and a baggageman were slightly hurt. Seven cars left the rails but only the baggage car and locomotive turned over.
A motorcycle burst and fire during an endurance race at the Botanic Gardens incinerated two women and caused a deadly stampede. Spectators fled as burning dresses and benzine fires swept the crowd, killing several and injuring many more amid a chaotic collapse of the grandstand.

Brunswick Georgia July 18. Edgar Smith returning home after a year away shot and killed his sister Rene while showing his father a pistol he had brought home. The father mother and other relatives stood nearby as the tragedy unfolded. Smith believed the pistol to be empty when he examined it.
In Columbus Ohio on July 8 a man named John Brown, a Nebraska resident, died from a bullet wound received during a quarrel with two armed men after a street robbery. The pair reportedly stole a watch and some money, then fled to a saloon rear room to divide the spirits. A bartender and John Golan tried to intervene after the shooting. Brown refused to name his confederates.
A New York City novena at the Church of St Jean Baptiste reports two miracles including a blind woman restored sight after eleven years and a lame man able to walk. Mrs Mary Brown recalls her daughter’s statue and a pilgrim’s tale of Saint Anne’s aid as the shrine’s prayers draw crowds. A Byline notes witnesses and altar boy James Clark observed the returning woman.
A crowded scene recounts a New York Aeronautic Society demonstration that ended when an amateur flyer eachtime struggled to control his craft. The machine dropped and crashed, injuring an aviator whose left arm was broken and who was helped from the wreckage.

Special to The Washington com Pittsburg July 18 Thomas OUe Brown formerly of ton clubman jumped into the O 1, River at Coraopatts Thursday afternoon. His body recovered last night and identified by Tay BOF Kean of Pittsburg who had known Brown for fourteen years. Kean said Brown complained of being treated unfairly. Browns brother was a paymaster in the United States Navy. Some boys saw the man jump but were not believed. Kean had the river dragged and the body was found. Services were held at his father's residence with burial in Washington Hebrew Cemetery. A special train carried many friends to attend.
