Divorce Bill Delayed Amid Senate Debates in Raleigh

Special to The Washington Post from Raleigh North Carolina January 1. A divorce bill introduced by the Good Government Association of Raleigh seeks to improve government efficiency and extend survey provisions. Other measures include protections for Frank Y employees, homestead and personal property exemptions, regulation of Frank Y telegraph and telephone company issuances, creation of a new judicial district in Guilford and Alamance counties, and reorganizing Moseley County for Greene Wayne and Lenoir areas. House actions include schedules for agricultural heads exploration, formation of a state library commission, two year terms for factions against telegraph companies, and expedited trials for capital offenses. A committee was proposed to visit convict camps and investigate county abuses. A heated debate arose over Speaker Graham’s plan to repeal the divorce law provision allowing divorce after ten years of separation. Graham argued the state moral force resisted jail tax laws and that past sessions repealed most such measures, declining to lower the moral standard. The bill was sent back to committee.
