On July 1, 1906, the board of education sought magazine subscriptions totaling 299.30, but the commissioners trimmed the list to 228.060. Commissioner West questioned the need for such subscriptions, yet the board upheld the purchase, arguing it falls within the contingency fund and is necessary for schools.
