Warfield Forces Routed as Dorton Shifts Support for Speaker
Baltimore Mil Feb 23 Senator Gorman scored a signal victory over Gov Warfield as Speaker Benson was elected chairman of the Baltimore and Ohio investigating committee over Senator Blair Lee. Dorton, the Republican from Baltimore City, swung his vote to a Democrat to prevent a deadlock. The House committee on rules was named to set investigation guidelines and limit inquiries to the Washington branch value, amid plans for a sharp probe. Meanwhile a new anti cigarette bill was introduced tightening penalties on sales to youths under sixteen with fines and possible imprisonment and shared fine proceeds to informers. Both houses adjourned after a brief session.
