Passports for Jews in Russia Beaddressed by State Secretary Hay

A Congressional Committee on Representatives has raised with Secretary Hay the issue of granting passports to Americans of Jewish faith in Russia. Secretary Hay stated that negotiations are pending and a reply was read to the committee. The committee, led by Rep Wachter, includes Rep Harrison and Rep Goldfogle, with Rep Lucking and Rep Bell, among others. The meeting focused on U S policy and the treatment of American Jews abroad.

Court Denies Injunctions in Phonograph Suit

Justice Stafford in Equity Court No 2 refused injunctions in the Columbia Phonograph and American Graphophone suits against John F Ellis & Co. A counter suit by Victor Talking Machine Co and Ellis & Co. against the phonograph firms was also denied injunctive relief. The ruling leaves parties to pursue other legal remedies.

Joseph R. Johnson Dead

Joseph R. Johnson of Barber & Ross died after a four year illness at 1804 Belmont Avenue. Born Newark 49 years ago he helped build the Washington hardware trade with Barber & Ross from 1881 and was active in St. Thomas parish and the Church Titans League. Funeral at 10 this morning, interment in Newark tomorrow. survived by wife Lottie H. and children Florence, Jean, and Ross.

Model of Pulaski Statue Exhibition at Corcoran Gallery

Red Cross Central Committee Meets at State Department

The central committee of the Red Cross was called to order yesterday at the State Department by Admiral Van Reypen, chairman, to carry out plans outlined at the general meeting. The association authorized branch series in each state and territory and approved incorporations. Necessary blanks were ordered sent to prominent persons in states with Red Cross interest.

Conveyance of Canal Property by Panama Canal Company

Counsel for the Panama Canal Company, Mr. Cromwell, called on Secretary Taft at the War Department yesterday and executed supplementary deeds of conveyance to the United States for certain buildings and material at Panama owned by the canal company.

Mrs Wolf's Great Dane Wins Beach Show Prize

Mrs Simon Wolf receives word from New York that her great Dane puppy won first prize at a beach show there and was awarded two Silver medals and a silver cup.

National bank notes received yesterday for redemption totalled 1,185,683 dollars. Government receipts from internal revenue reached 726,690 dollars, customs 897,827 dollars, and miscellaneous 133,847 dollars. Expenditures amounted to 1,620,000 dollars.
