Hermann trial halts as defense objects to copied letters
Oregon Congressman Hermann faces a pause in his trial after counsel Worthington objected to introducing letter-press copy books as evidence. The government asserts the letters were official records. the defense argues the books were private property and not clearly described in the indictment. The judge sustains the objection, delaying proceedings until morning while the district attorney gathers the letters in his possession for review.
