Meyer Sued by Ex Officer Over Navy Rank on Retirement
Jefferson F. Moser, a California retired navy officer, filed mandamus in the District Supreme Court asking the secretary of the navy to place his name on the official retired list as rear admiral rather than captain. He argues a Court of Claims decision entitles him to the higher grade and emoluments since September 28, 1904, while Secretary Meyer refuses to recognize the rank, keeping him listed as captain retired. Moser enlisted in 1848 and retired in 1888 after forty years of service with a creditable record.
