Fourteen year old boy killed by automobile in early morning crash
A fourteen year old colored boy Simuel West was struck by a touring car on Fourteenth street near Columbia road, instantly killed. Chauffeur Charles H. Raymond, twenty, of I Street NW, was released on bond. Coroner Nevitt scheduled an inquest at 11 AM. The auto belonged to Joseph Lester, who with family and friends witnessed the tragedy. The car swerved as a streetcar stopped, the boy ran toward a grocery where he worked, and the impact occurred just feet from the store. Medical examiners ruled it an unavoidable accident. Funeral arrangements and financial aid for the family were offered by Joseph Leiter, who was in the car.
