Bread law opposed by major Washington trade groups
Representatives from the Washington Bakers Association, Washington Board of Trade, and Washington Chamber of Commerce opposed a bread weighing law proposed by District sealer Col. W. C. Haskell. They argued the bill is unnecessary, burdens bakers, and offers no public benefit. Attorneys from the three bodies testified at a District Building hearing, stressing private competition in baking and the inconvenience of such regulation.
