Hatpin and Rope Killings Shadow Newark House Mystery

In Newark 45 Atrshalt Street sisters Frances Ritchie and Isabel Hitchie are found dead under grim circumstances. One stabbed through the heart with a hatpin and strangled, the other hanging from a doorknob with rope. both may have died in a murder and suicide or a double murder with one self-inflicted death. Police and doctor note a single rope, a note hinting at hanging, and conflicting theories about which sister caused the others death. Local landlord Edward F. G. Gordon discovered the scene and alerted authorities after attempting to contact the sisters since December 14. The case remains unresolved with investigators weighing murder versus self-inflicted deaths.
