Eight Transports Sail From France Loaded With Returning Troops

War Department announced the sailing from France of eight transports filled with returning U S troops and support units. In Lisbon on December 16 1930 Dr Brito Camacho leader of the unionist group in the Portuguese chamber of deputies and Magalhaes Lima head of the republican party were arrested. Lima accused of receiving a letter tied to the assassination of President Sidonio Paes. Paes’ body was moved to Belém palace as the government under Ossorio Castro continued, while parliament planned to name a new president amid national mourning and demonstrations. The assassin Jeanne was shot by a mob after the event.
