Canadian Farmers Demand Government Action in 1900s Resolutions

Delegation of Canadian farmers presented resolutions urging government ownership of terminal elevators, a government run Hudson Bay railroad, a nationwide chilled meat industry, railway law amendments, cooperative society facilitation, and shorter bank charters. Laurier responded on tariffs, the elevator plan, and the Hudson Bay line, signaling caution on broad reforms while noting possible shifts toward reciprocal trade with the United States and freer trade with Britain. The farmers pledged ongoing pressure, planning to return to Ottawa annually with their demands.
