Actress Catherine Neil in Greenwich poisoning case

Greenwich residents reel from the fatal assault on Joseph Neill, with Catherine ONeill alias Catherine Neil to be brought to Greenwich for arraignment. She, a former actress addicted to morphine, is said to have threatened Neill and caused his death during a quarrel at the Greenwich Hotel. Hospitalized at Bellevue, she faces fugitive-from-justice proceedings and possible manslaughter charges.

Immigrants Arrested After Halle Arrival in Baltimore

In Baltimore three Russian immigrants were arrested after leaving the North German Lloyd steamer Halle. Pioto Wisniewski Branislaus Zachewski and Joseph Ptak and a woman Murielo Yloska are held for immigration authorities. The men, aged 34 and 28 respectively, were steerage passengers. The charge cited is robbery against a Warsaw merchant. Wisniewski hints at connections to socialism in Russia and attempted to escape on the way to the police station.

Newport News Cars Stop After Bond Failure

The Hampton Roads Traction Company ends service in Newport News after a $20 000 bond was not furnished, dissolving an injunction. Tracks run to the city limits and residents protest walking four blocks and higher fares to reach town. The city may forfeit tracks and property as the company claims the service is unprofitable. Tobacco Market Quiet in South Boston and Petersburg

In South Boston Virginia on December 1 the tobacco market reported higher leaf receipts with total sales of 356000 pounds. Prices averaged over 13 cents per pound across all grades as warehouses prepared for year end closure until the New Year. In Petersburg Virginia by December 16 loose warehouse sales were light but strong prices held from 450 to 25 dollars per hundred pounds with large dark wrappers fetching the higher end. Season totals reached 3,532,645 pounds.

Thaw Record Returned From Thief Action

Pittsburg reports that the dockets stolen from Justice Creelman’s Wilkinsburg office have been recovered. The records related to Harry Kendall Thaw and a prior arrest of Evelyn Nesbit associate were found at a Wilkinsburg storefront window sill after private detectives and Creelman’s attorney pursued leads. The case involved Thaw’s alleged enticement of a fifteen year old girl, Miss Fitch, and his arrest followed by disclosure to the girl’s mother.

Double tragedy in Boston's South End ends in suicide and homicide

Margery Clerk, 40, was found shot in a lodging house on Dover Street with a revolver in her hand. Beside her lay her husband, Atwood, 40, fatally shot in the forehead. Atwood died later in hospital. The pair were last seen alive late that night. she had said she had sent for him from Denver, arriving a week ago.

Woman Dies in Burlington Hotel Fire

In Burlington Vermont on December 16 Mrs. Frank Coonrad is believed killed as the American House block burned, destroying about $40,000 in property and damaging two adjacent blocks. Fire started from hot ashes in the hotel rear, guests fled, one man aided Mrs Coonrad before losing his grip and she vanished, likely a victim of the flames.
