Woman Found Slain Police Seek Missing Man
Cumberland Maryland August 15 officers searched the countryside east of Cumberland for a man believed to know the fate of Mrs Mary Benson 43 widow of John Benson of Ridgely West Virginia whose body was found on the Millin highway near the suburbs. Mrs Benson on her way home after a dance was intercepted by two men and a woman in a car she refused to ride and was pursued. The car reportedly turned off toward another direction and she may have been forced or invited to ride and either jumped or was thrown from the vehicle. A coroner called a jury of inquiry. A cap found near the body was identified as belonging to Cecil Clark who was detained as a material witness. Clark says the cap blew off his head during a ride and that the other occupant denied stopping. Mrs Benson left behind a daughter Miss May Kline four stepsons and three children from a second marriage.
