Albert S Burlegan and four assistant postmasters general will review the case and likely set a precedent for the entire service. Officials say the blanket authority governing order in post offices is broad and could extend to actions like prohibiting smoking in lobbies. The dispute hinges on whether bathing suits inside a post office constitute disorderly conduct, a question not yet formally ruled on by the department.
