Howard Playground Pool To Remain Open at Night
Howard playground swimming pool will stay open at night and on Sundays unless a large number of responsible colored residents object. Mrs Susie Root Rhodes, supervisor of playgrounds, announced the plan amid a protest by M A Waldron a veteran Baptist minister. He says women using the night openings would be improper and plans to convene Baptist ministers to oppose the plan. The petition signed by many leaders including Bishop Jones of the Methodist church supports keeping the pool open after morning services. Evidence of strong colored resident opposition was noted.
