Terre Haute Indiana March 31 a large majority of Indiana bituminous miners oppose accepting the operators ultimatum raising wages 12 to 27 percent in the Clinton district 1540 men vote for keeping shooters out if a settlement is not reached by week end a long strike looms John Mitchell may visit Thursday and his support would steer the union stance while the Clinton miners favor the operators terms a joint conference between employers and miners continues and the old scale expires at midnight

A wife of farmer John H Hayes she lived near Bethany church and leaves five children and a sister in Kansas. Funeral services set for Wednesday at 11 30 at Bethany church with burial in the adjacent cemetery.

William Owen, a leading Shakespeare student and actor, will lecture on Shakespeare at the High School building Saturday at 4 30 PM. The free lecture invites all interested in the subject. Owen, a renowned tragedian, has played all leading roles and often speaks in cities where he performs. He is not acting Shakespeare this year but stars in a revival of Sheridan's School for Scandal.
Engineer Montgomery says work on the Barr township road improvement survey will begin Wednesday and be pushed rapidly. Various local changes and appointments are noted including staff at Elnora and Worthington hotels and school postings.
