A series of local obituaries and notices report the death of an eighteen month old in a Hollingsworth home from ingesting strychnine tablets. Other deaths include Ella Winn in Vincennes from pneumonia, Margaret Steht of Alfordsville, George Grismore of Arizona, and Joseph Shephard of Vincennes. Surviving relatives, birthplaces, and burial plans are listed for each.
A young Ford boy from Eawardsport is reportedly dentined after an incident on the EB 4 railroad. Mr and Mrs Ford, who reside nearby, have kept vigil as he recovers at Evansville hospital after being proubeot home Saturday.
The Indiana State Republican Committee met to approve dates for reorganization steps for the 1908 campaign. Precinct caucus dates were set January 10–11, county committees January 13, district chairmen January 14, and state committee reorganization January 16 in Indianapolis.
Theodore Roosevelt states he will not be a candidate for a further nomination. He references the Republican National Committee call for a convention and notes he has served three and a half years by March 4 and will not seek a second term. The president emphasizes the distinction between substance and form in the two term tradition.
William L. Brown trustee and Benjamin Burris township superintendent are considering building a township high school for graduates from local country schools. A site near Boxtown is favored, but final choice awaits advisory board input to ensure accessibility for all pupils. The Washington high school is crowded, underscoring the need for a new facility and improved instruction.
The Catholic Columbian Record reports Rev William Garrity is sent to St Dennis after serving as assistant to Rev Victor Schnell in Terre Haute. Rev James B Delaney also moves, transferring from St Patrick’s in Decatur County as part of the assignment.
A Daviess circuit court injunction suit seeks to halt a city council sale of the electric light plant. Plaintiffs include J. via J. W. McCarty and F. X. Rel M. J. Hayes among others, with Padgett & Padgett and Ogden & Inman representing them. The voluminous complaint claims the plant, bought in 1900 by Washington Light and Water Co., is operated by the city and a stock sale would mean disposition of the plant itself.
The city sets December 16 as the bid receipt date. Judge W. R. Gardiner will lead the proceedings with the city attorney handling filings and questions.
Mrs Maria Sanford a native of Daviess county and longtime Washington resident dies at her east Walnut street home after a cancer battle. Born March 9 1841 on a nearby farm she married William Sanford in 1859 and leaves several children and siblings including John Graham Shanks Willis Graham and Mrs Moses Alsten. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church.
Local residents John Kellett Tom Murphy Edward Fanning and Patrick Murphy families visited Montgomery and Loogontee for social gatherings and sales. Guests included Mrs John Brewer and Miss Leona elt staying with relatives. Michael Kellett returned from St. Louis after employment there.
In Daviess circuit court a verdict for the defendant was returned in Ridge against Hubbs after a short deliberation. Stoy v Stoy saw a sixteen hour jury run before a verdict for the defendant on a jewelry shipment collection. Rosa Allegree’s divorce decree ordered alimony and child custody. $4 monthly payments begin January 1. The December term juries were discharged. motions to be heard Friday and Saturday. Several cases were tried, continued, or dismissed.

Way of Enid Oklahoma visits relatives, George and Grant Faith of Washington seen Saturday, Mrs. Allen Chandler of Terre Haute guest of relatives, Geo Hedrick and Jesse Hedrick of Huntingburg and Indianapolis visiting kin. Charles Webber returned Tuesday from Fairfield where he worked. County Treasurer H C Truelove prays, contractor C F Mercer expects wall completion soon. David Grismore went to meet brother George D Grismore in Arizona, burial planned at Old Union Cemetery Friday.
