Reforms on Trusts Forests and Railroads Urged by President
The president urges amending the Sherman Act to permit public interest corporations with strong federal oversight. He calls for control of railroads by an interstate commerce commission and publicity in their securities and rates, plus labor and wageworker protections, old age pensions, and broader social reforms including forests, waterways, postal savings banks, and education. He also advocates statehood for New Mexico and Arizona and full support for Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Panama Canal program.
