Masmington representative J. Harris will introduce a bill to elect county superintendents by popular vote, replacing township trustees. The measure has backing from Daviess county teachers, who urged such reform at their annual meeting. If passed, the change would apply by the next election, with incumbent Burris’s term ending in 1911. The move faces Democratic resistance amid trustee campaigns and Republican protection of current offices. Brown argues public voting curbs candidate influence and saves expenses.
