Lighting's Work Strikes Barn and Mules in Storm
A severe electrical storm hit Washington and vicinity, burning the Berens slaughterhouse barn recently converted by William R. Meredith. Hart Huffstetter & Burton contractors housed fourteen mules. one mule killed, one stunned and struck by falling timber, twelve rescued as feed burned. Contractors’ loss about 3100. Lightning Strikes Hit Area Causing Shocks and Fences Down
During the storm William Dant was in the barn and was badly stunned but not seriously hurt. Lightning also struck a tree at Rev. H. Head's home where family members were slightly shocked. Several trees were struck and a few fences blown down as the wind remained strong in places with limited other damage.

Clothes ignite as stove heat scorches Vincennes home
A fire on the south side Friday evening started when clothes hung over a stove caught flame. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze causing about 30 to 80 dollars in losses. Mrs. Mary Stringer owned the Vincennes residence. It was the new department’s first run with horse power, and Dan performed like a veteran.

Girls Fight Over Man At Country Church Near Decker
Pearl Twitty Emma Heacock and Wigttie Heacock, three young women of Decker Knox county, attacked Mollie Moore at a country church service after accusing her of courting a local youth. All three faced Lat Vincennes court, fined 21 dollars 40 cents each, paid. Moore fled to Gibson county and has not been arrested.

Narrow escape for Joe Glover in machine shop mishap
Joe Glover, a young machinist apprentice, barely avoided serious injury when a torn pocket caught on a machine pulley. He was pulled into the wheel, bruising and tearing flesh on his shoulders before the machine was stopped. Dr. Henry Here attended the injured worker.

Smallpox Claims Fifth Life This Week in Local Area
Joseph Schurr of Vincennes avenue died this morning from smallpox after a several day decline. He was a prominent B. and O. S W. trainman and had recently run the switch engine in the yards. His wife survives him. Burial is planned tonight at Osio Grove cemetery.

Mallet Articulated Locomotive To Headline World Fair Display
The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad will exhibit the largest locomotive at the St. Louis World’s Fair. The Mallet articulated engine, built by the American Locomotive Company, will pull the heaviest Allegheny trains after the exposition. Pony Driven by Washington Men Flies Off Bridge
Littleton Bennett and Madison Courtney, two Washington real estate men, escaped serious harm when a pony driver ran away south of Cumback and toppled the buggy from a bridge onto barb-wire fencing.
