The State Board of Tax Commissioners released 1903 assessments for steam and electric railroads, telephone and telegraph firms, sleeping cars, transportation, express, and pipeline companies. Steam railroads rose by 2,523,583 in valuation, electric railroads by 2,374,450, and telephone firms by 1,773,973, totaling a 6,674,006 increase for these categories while telegraph and related services dropped 1,233,109. The B and O S W main line was set at 22,000 per mile, Louisville division 19,000 per mile, side tracks 3,000 and rolling stock 2,256. Southern Indiana assessment incomplete.

Girl Attempts Suicide With Morphine Near Washington
Late Monday a girl employed at Grandison Cosby’s farm southeast of Washington attempted suicide by taking morphine. She revealed her act and Dr A H Faith of this city treated her, inducing vomiting. she was unconscious upon arrival and saved from death.
