Old Love Affair Ends In Tragic Self Destruction In Indiana

Loogootee Indiana April 25 Sunday night Harry Huebner a notable young businessman was found dead on a sidewalk with a knife in his hand and blood about. Initially suspected as murder later ruled suicide linked to an old love affair and worries over two engagements. He had wed Thursday to Lizzie Brown a niece of politician Thomas Forces and had spent Sunday with her mother before leaving.

Tragedy Strikes Local Community In Shirey Area

About 7 30 p m in the evening Harry Huebner a 26 year old harness maker and part owner in Bubner Shirey and Gates hardware firm stopped near his wife’s home and killed himself. The act shocked the town and burial is expected Wednesday morning.

River Floods Recede as Elnora Waters Fall Rapidly

River levels in Elnora and nearby areas are dropping after Sunday rains. Farmers report the flood easing and hope crops remain unharmed as fish and debris gather in pools along rivers and creeks.

Smith Wellinger Wedding at St. Simons Church

At five o'clock this morning at St. Simons church Arthur Smith and Miss Catherine Wellinger were united in marriage by Rev. J.W. Doyle. A few natives and friends were present. The groom moved here from Loogootee years ago to take employment as a B and C 8 W trainman. His bride is a well known West end woman. They will go to house keeping in West Washington.

Will Build Roads It Will Not Be Appealed

A compromise in the Steele township gravel road case ends further appeals. Eight remonstrators receive 10 cash each and the contractor covers Gardiner Slimp’s attorney fees, totaling about 200 in costs to settle and begin work immediately.

Judgment Given in Cook vs Home Merchants Trading Stamps

This morning in Squire Kellams court the suit of John A. Cook against the Home Merchants Trading stamp concern to redeem checks held by Washington people was tried and decided for the plaintiff who was given judgment against the defendant. Constable Check was ordered to sell the goods attached and will do so on May 2. These goods will pay the costs of the case but the holders of checks will probably receive nothing.

Rainstorm Swells Indiana Rivers as Traffic Halts

Heavy rainfall in southwestern Indiana Sunday night caused rivers and creeks to overflow, with Poseyville Evansville and nearby areas hardest hit. Flooding stopped traffic on area railroads while cooler fair weather is forecast for Tuesday.

Unlucky Opal Linked to Two Deaths Tale Ends

In Jxwrararours Indiana April 20 a famed opal and a scarf pin pass into two men ends with both men dead. Nathan Morris bought the opal and gave it to Frank Burke ex District Attorney amid a superstition claim. Burke later fell ill and died in Jeffersonville after visiting Mrs Morris's office to confront Morris.

Washout delays on B and O S W disrupt Sunday excursion

A 700 foot washout near Clay City halted the B and O South-West line for hours delaying regular trains and Sunday excursion to St Louis. Flora, Illinois crews worked overnight to repair the roadbed as trains resumed by morning.
