Five in Critical Condition After Northwest Railroad Wreck
Five more persons remained in critical condition Friday night in hospitals here from injuries this week when nine people were killed and at least 82 injured in a collision of a fast freight train and a passenger car on the North Western line near Missouri Valley. Six civilians including a 16 month old Hull baby and three soldiers died in the wreck along with the baby’s father.

Paul Verner, 25, who killed his stepfather Frank Jayne, 65, at Spencer on October 24 1937, is to be paroled from Anamosa reform school next month after pleading guilty to first degree murder and receiving a life sentence in 1938. The victim died after a window sash weight struck him while listening to a phonograph. the record continued to play as the body was found.
