Sunday fire at the M and M Importers building caused about 15000 in damage. Fire chief Maynard L Brown said the blaze started from a short in an extension cord upstairs and spread to a Davenport placed against the wall. Fireman Leo Beauchamp received a six stitch gash from falling glass but injuries are not serious.

A Fort Madison couple suffered cuts and bruises when their car, en route to Iowa City, left the road after a collision with Edward J. Box of Route Two Salem. Donald Dale Stevens was cited for passing without a signal as the car demolished. A second crash near Ainsworth involved Ernest Emalian of Scranton Pennsylvania failing to stop at a junction, colliding with Harold Davis of Lisbon. Damages totaled about 375 dollars.

Richland Iowa Hart Tractor overturn injures Don Grimes a 50 year old mechanic at Hannah Implement Company. He was returning from the Dick Gingles farm when the tractor left the road pinning him. He suffered a pelvis fracture in five places multiple ribs wrist injuries and other hurts. He is in Ottumwa hospital under traction with daughter Betty a registered nurse assisting.

Weekend traffic crashes in Iowa killed three people and injured others across several incidents. Ronald Carter, 18, died when his car struck a truck on U S highway 67 near Camanche. a truck driver and six horses were involved. Richard Foxhoven, 18, died near Defiance after a possible swerving collision. two others were hurt. Gene Lee Martin, 24, died southeast of Rock Rapids in a hill collision.
