Atlantic priest elected national chaplain of the American Legion
P N McDermott of Atlantic was elected by acclamation as national chaplain. Born in Donegal County Ireland on June 19, 1885, he was ordained in Davenport Iowa on January 5, 1908. He served in World War I, rising to first lieutenant, and later led St. Peter and Paul parish in Atlantic after a stint in Woodbine Iowa.

Garner mourns Charles Quintus 81 inventor of the Quintus self feeder for threshing machines. He died Thursday after three months of illness at his Garner home. Funeral Sunday at United Presbyterian church. Surviving are his wife two daughters two sisters and one brother. He marketed his device across 14 midwestern states and held additional patents.

Unavoidable Accident Kills Des Moines Girl
Des Moines Police and Coroner A. E. Shaw ruled the death of Mae lene Brumbaugh, 206 months old, an unavoidable accident. The child, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Brumbaugh, was hit by a delivery truck backing from a driveway on Hutton street. Driver Douglas Davis said he was unaware of the child until hearing screams and she died later at Iowa Lutheran Hospital from a fractured skull.

Bids Sought for Winter Patrol Uniforms in Iowa

Man Gored to Death by Bull Near Local Farm
Dayton L. W. Durst, former four miles northwest of here, was found dead shortly before noon Thursday after leaving at 7 am. He was attacked and gored by a bull, his skull fractured. A search began when he did not return by 11 am. the body lay near a fence.

Bound Over at Hearing for Embezzlement
