In Centerville Iowa on September 26 the Appanoose county coal fields reported calm under sheriff Karl Gaugenbaugh. Pickets remained at all operating mines and tensions eased after rain, a larger force of officers, and Governor Hammill’s troop threat. Striker groups were dispersed without incident.
Flight Lieut. S N Webster of Faclord won the Schneider cup seaplane race over a 50 kilometer course watched by tens of thousands at Lido Italy. Owing to rough seas seven laps were needed with an average speed of 255.1 mph. England's Wor sley finished among the few who completed the course.
The 29th and 0th of this month at Washington Iowa hosts a five prize daily event. First prize ten dollars second eight dollars third thirty six dollars fourth four dollars and fifth two dollars. Fifty cents admission per pitcher. Each pitcher must stake one dollar to stay in the game until finish. refunds apply to those who stay in. Professionals who have pitched at State Fairs and won money are barred. Games begin daily at nine. no entries after ten.

About fifty members of the Keota Christian church and their pastor Stev. Nalley joined the Washington Christian congregation Sunday. Nalley preached at the eleven o'clock service and a church dinner for both congregations fed about 150 with creamed chicken and other foods. Rev. Mr. Lowe will return next Sunday for a rally and inspirational services, expected to last about two weeks.
Al Haldrige defeated 1926 champion Tom Brookhart in a final eighteen hole match to claim the club’s loving cup. Haldrige posted 87 over the 18 and Brookhart 95, after a tied 72 holes plus extra 18. The finalists finished the match in under two hours and later hunted ducks at Cone Marsh. Presentation ceremony date not announced.

Schuster of Chicago was unanimously elected choir director at the Methodist Episcopal church after appearing as director and soloist at a music committee meeting. He previously taught two years at A and M State College in Jonesboro Arkansas and had a successful year as music instructor at Baylor University in Waco Texas.
The D A R local chapter announces the home talent play Aunt Lucia to be shown October 18 and 14 instead of October 6 and T. The comedy previously played in Fairfield and Clinton to good reception.
