Gazette editor D. H. Logan suffered a cracked collar bone when a neck yoke pin failed during a ride to a speech in Dublin. County Attorney Brookhart escaped serious harm, but both were shaken. Brookhart continued with his address claiming Logan’s injury ensured full meeting time.
The wedding of Abbie Ruth Gunn to Samuel Younkin took place at the home of the bride’s parents Rev and Mrs W. Gunn at 310 Fourth Street. The ceremony featured Mendelssohn’s march, a flower girl Florence Irving, and vows spoken by Rev Guon with Rev Laslett assisting. The bride wore cream white satin with pearl trimmings and white roses. Harriette Gunn served as bridesmaid. The groom wore black, and Dr Merriet Jewell attended him. The couple departed for their new home in Washington Iowa at 7:05 train, with well wishes from numerous friends and family members present, including several from distant towns.
Jessie Waters arrested by Officer Heath on a gambling house charge and bound over to the next term of court on $200 bonds after waiving examination. The report notes Waters’ ongoing legal troubles. A separate item lists the Lucy 1s race at Wilton Junction where Ebony Wilkes finished third in a purse race, with times and participant names from Des Moines to Muscatine and De Witt in Iowa.
Thursday in Dublin during a ball game Carkuff collided with Howard Lewis causing Lewis to break his limb. The incident halted play as spectators and officials attended to the injured man.
The Prohibitionists of this county plan a meeting at Salvation Army Hall next Monday September 28 at 1 30 PM to nominate a county ticket. Mrs L E Bailey will address the convention and lecture Monday evening at a church to be announced later. Win Smouse returned last night from a business trip to Algona Iowa. James Turner and Mr and Mrs Jas Rathmell returned yesterday from an extended visit in Greene County Ohio and report a splendid tide.
The Graham hosted a refined musicale by Mrs. Ink and pupils with strong young talent. Performers included Annie Birney, Lulu Slocum, Mable Meek, May Teeter, Lola Wells, Maude McCully, Hubert Crail, Daisy Bush, Ollie Dixon, Iney Holden, A T Stewart, Ethel Baird, Clara Lanning, Chas Howe, Lou Vogt and others. The program showcased piano and vocal solos, duets, and a Mendelssohn chorus to applause and praise.
