Former Resident Dies In Des Moines Home

Mrs. Sarah K. Crawford aged 89 died at her Des Moines home after a three year illness. Funeral services are set for 9 a.m. Tuesday at Hamilton funeral home Des Moines with interment at Oakdale cemetery Davenport at 3 p.m. Tuesday. Born in Washington she married John A Crawford who died in 1932. Survivors include two daughters one son and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an aunt of Ralph Martin of Washington.

Insurance Clinic Slated Here Tuesday

District two of the Iowa Association of Mutual Insurance agents will hold a one day clinic in St. James social hall. The school for agents runs 9 30 to 4 with about 50 agents expected. Paul Horak chairs the event with local attendees A L Griffith R O Ferguson and Ira Coon. George F Howes of Iowa Mutual Casualty De Witt will conduct the clinic.

Dies Here Harry Dye A Widely Known Political Figure

Harry Dye 74 long active in Iowa politics died here Saturday night after a heart attack. A Washington County Democratic central committee chairman and Bethel Presbyterian elder, he lived on 908 North Second Avenue and will be honored Tuesday Sept 26 at 2 PM at Jones funeral home. Burial at Ainsworth cemetery. He was born Oct 5 1875 in Morgan County Ohio and married Elizabeth Parmiter in 1902. Survivors include his wife and twin sister Carrie Rabenold of Ainsworth.

The Chamber of Commerce reports three families moving to Washington. The Crouchs from Richmond Missouri now live at 61514 West Monroe. Crouch is Penney store assistant manager and the family attends Baptist church. The Wilburn Johnsons from Salina Kansas reside at 1102 East Washington with children Jerry Frances and Johnny. Johnson is McLellan store manager and the family is Baptist. Ronald Heyde and Ruth from Winfield live at 319% East Washington. Heyde works at Peters hardware and the family attends Presbyterian church.

VFW District Meet Held in Iowa City

The VEW and VFW Auxiliary district meeting convened in Iowa City with Local Commander Marion McAvoy Auxiliary president Mrs. Harold Kerr and many Washington attendees. U S Representative Thomas B Martin gave the principal address as resolutions aimed at draft deferments schooling of reservists and Korea veterans benefits were approved for state convention review. The auxiliary session featured department president Mrs. Angus Nelson of Knoxville and ten department officers focusing on public and hospital service to veterans.

Two Named in Damage Suit Filed in Court

Donald Thompson and the Eclipse Lumber Co. are named defendants in a district court damage suit filed by Walter E. Marner seeking 292.95 for injuries from a July 1949 automobile accident 514 miles northeast of Kalona. Marner alleges Thompson swerved into a ditch to avoid a head on collision with a Eclipse Lumber truck. The case requests a jury trial.

YWCA To Present Rosa Page Welch In Concert

The Young Womens Christian Association will host Rosa Page Welch of Chicago, a nationally known negro mezzo soprano, in concert at the Methodist church next Thursday evening. A free will offering will be collected with proceeds beyond expenses supporting the World Fellowship fund of the YWCA.
