Ottumwa Iowa September 24 The new rose boat Polly Boone recently constructed at a cost of nearly 1000 dollars was totally destroyed by a gasoline explosion while en route on a flat car to Davenport where it was to be launched in the Mississippi for a cruise to New Orleans.
Indianola Iowa Sept 24 Following a serious cutting affray with a soldier Fort Des Moines over a girl Join fman eighteen years old died by self inflicted gunshot at his home five miles east of the city. The weapon was a rifle. In another dispatch Okuk nineteen was absent from home when intruders entered the rectory of St. Ahn's Episcopal church and robbed R. C. McIlwain of 5600 in cash left in an unlocked dresser.
A well dressed young woman believed to be Miss Ther Ashley from Carrolltown Missouri tried to end her life by taking carbolic acid on the river bank in Barlington Iowa. She was taken to the hospital and may die.
Postmaster General Hitchcock addressed Oregon postmasters in Portland on September 24. He stressed economy as essential and said a postal savings system should be inaugurated here, though timing remains uncertain and the plan awaits a formal report before implementation.
A Seattle accident at Yh and Weller streets killed two women, Miss Winnie Frazer and Miss Jessie Mabel Johnson, and badly injured five others. The car plunged through a trestle. Lindsay the driver and three other occupants sustained serious injuries.

Chicago market report for September 24, 1909 shows estimated receipts of hogs 8 000 with mixed and heavy shipper grades ranging 7 65 to 8 60. Cattle receipts about 2 000 to 4 00 bid, beef and veal values 4 00 to 8 35, sheep 12 300 head with native and western flocks at 2 70 to 7 25. Closing hogs 8 15 to 8 45, cattle dull, sheep steady.

LeMars mayor B J Charles won vice president over Grinnell mayor L D Kemmerer. Frank G Pierce of Marshalltown was re elected secretary treasurer. Cedar Rapids C B Huston was named director to fill a vacancy. Waterloo won the next convention over Davenport by a narrow margin.
