Illinois producers show top animals at Swine Conference
The 3rd annual National Commercial Swine Type Conference at the Washington County fairgrounds honored top gilts and trucklots. Dallas Kaestner of Kewanee won the champion gilt weighing 264 pounds. M. J. Scott & Sons of Bradford took the trucklot title with a 1,695-pound pen. Brian Meeker of Letts earned reserve champion gilt and showed a 1,565-pound runner-up trucklot with Marian Owens & Sons. The sale total reached 28,600 dollars for 128 animals. Kaestner earned 475 dollars, Meeker 310, Scott 1,380 for his champion pen. Additional honors went to Elmer Swartzlander for the top boar, with various second-place and team awards to 4-H and FFA members and chapters.
