Senate Passes Anti Hijack Bill With FAA Screening Mandate
The Senate approved the anti hijacking bill 75 to 1, mandating electronic screening of airline passengers and authorizing FAA to install weapons detection devices at all airports. It includes funding of 5.5 million for devices and 35 million annually for an FAA security force. It also imposes possible air travel denial for refusals to be searched and up to death penalty or 20 years for air piracy. It seeks sanctions on nations aiding hijackers, allows suspension of service to hostile countries, and bars concealed weapons on planes.
