Two Fliers Die in Plane Crash at Miami Airport
A transport plane and an army bomber collided on the ground at the 36th Street airport in Miami. At least two fliers were killed and four injured as an explosion followed the crash. A tank car of primer oil arrived by Burlington freight at 12 30 to coat and heat for street resurfacing. Young Man Dies After Short Illness
Maynard William Bower, 22, son of Mr and Mrs Harvey Bower of 1409 North Second Avenue, died at 7 15 am at Washington County Hospital after an illness of a few days diagnosed as acute kidney ailment. He had driven a truck at Albia and returned home last Wednesday very ill. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 pm at L A Jones funeral home with Rev Jay Phipps, Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Burial at Elm Grove cemetery. He was born at Brighton April 13 1920, and survived by his father, stepmother, two brothers LeRoy of Glenwood and Junior and two sisters Mrs Winona Smith and Tlean, all of Washington.

The Internal Revenue Bureau reports the automobile use tax offset a nearly ten million dollar drop in gasoline tax revenue caused by rationing. August receipts totaled 681,667,158 dollars, up 207,296,183 from last year.
