Perfex plans major plant expansion in Washington
Washington City Council unanimously authorized up to 1.5 million in municipal industrial revenue bonds to finance Perfex McQuay-Perfex Inc expansion of its Washington plant. The project aims to add about 40 000 square feet, create 150 to 200 jobs, and use the bonds with no city liability. Completion targeted for spring or early summer 1977 with footings this year.

Gas line fire injures ISU foreman in city ditch
Jack Genkinger foreman of the Iowa Southern Utilities Co natural gas crew was taken to Washington County Hospital for treatment of minor burns after a small gas line fire in the 300 block of South Iowa Avenue. Firemen said ISU employees were connecting a gas line in a ditch when the blaze started, sparked by a resident who reported the alarm.

August price rise lifts annual inflation to six percent
The Labor Department reports a 0.5 percent rise in consumer prices for August, the third straight monthly gain. Fires destroy Joetown mill area equipment and Gingerich barn
Two fires hit Kalona area Monday causing heavy damage. A diesel engine housed at Joetown saw mill shed ignited a 300 gallon fuel tank and equipment loss. The Emery Gingerich barn, 48 by 70 feet, burned with about 4000 bales of hay and straw lost. no livestock, cause undetermined. Kalona and Wellman firefighters contained both fires and saved a nearby slag pile area.
