Washington youngsters collecting sponsors for the American Lung Association of Iowa Walk-a-Thon on September 25 will win prizes from local merchants. Top prize is a 10 speed bicycle from Coast to Coast along with Olympic lights from the Washington Jaycees and jogging shoes from Gibson Shoes. All finishers receive Hardees gift certificates. The 20 kilometer event starts at Sunset Park at 9 a.m. with registration at 8:30 a.m. Proceeds benefit Lung Association programs.

Berger elected president of Iowa Farm Business Association
Dennis Berger of Wellman was elected president of the Iowa Farm Business Association at a Board meeting in Ames. He previously served as vice president and represents the Mississippi Valley Farm Business Association. The fourth annual National Commercial Swine Type Conference at the county fairgrounds drew hog producers from the region. Henry Bottema & Son won the overall champion gilt, with Dallas Kaestner taking reserve in the same class, and Aaron Tolander’s truckload champion pen topped six February gilts.
